Regeneration and Housing Seminars

The Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) has commissioned the British Urban Regeneration Association (BURA) to develop a series of seminars on housing and regeneration for the strategic housing programme.

Waterside Housing

These seminars will enable delegates to gain a better understanding of the context of strategic housing. They are also an opportunity to discuss and gain knowledge on the challenges of housing supply in the context of growth and regeneration. Throughout the programme guest speakers will also being talking on key issues around strategic housing. Throughout the day these presentations will be mixed in with group discussion and debate about the topics covered.

The seminars will be delivered in three full days in consecutive months. They will cover the key areas of strategic housing and will feature guest speakers from the public and private sectors. Below is an outline of the key learning objectives for each programme:

First seminar – The Strategic Context

  • To understand the strategic context of Place Making tracking the time line in the evolution of Government.
  • Exploring the critical success factors required to produce a comprehensive and robust Housing Strategy.
  • To evaluate the critical connection between Housing Strategy and the Sustainable Community Strategy, developing the links with Local Area Agreements and Comprehensive Area Assessment.

Second seminar – Managing the Local Market and Delivering Effective Masterplanning

  • To understand the principles of Housing Market Analysis (HMA), data requirements, interpretation and impact of wider economic factors e.g. the credit crunch.
  • To apply HMA to holistic regeneration programmes.
  • Looking at the practical applications of data collection and analysis.
  • Understanding the role of masterplanning and the development of area frameworks.

Third seminar – The Delivery Agenda

  • Investigating how strategic housing can lead in developing sustainable communities.
  • To consider the importance and impact of design in the creation of space and communities.
  • Explore the current progress and effectiveness of the Eco Homes Agenda.
  • To review progress and implementation of community empowerment initiatives such as Neighbourhood Management and their role in Place Making.
