About the Seaside Network

Blue seagull

The Seaside Network was launched in Hastings in July 2006 to address the specific challenges of regeneration in seaside communities and draw together people from all sectors concerned with the physical, economic and social regeneration of coastal communities throughout the UK. The network raises the profile of seaside towns, shares experience, knowledge, ideas and contacts, promotes best practice and innovation, and aims to influence policy and practice.

Since its launch in Hastings we have also co-ordinated-

  • A shared learning visit to Margate for 30 Network Members
  • An inaugural annual lecture by Nick Rodgers, Economic Development Officer, North Down Council outlining recent research into the planning impacts of out-of-town retail on coastal towns
  • A heavily reported on conference in Scarborough where the Commons Select Committee launched their Coastal Report
  • The launch of a Piers for the 21st Century Competition

The Seaside Network currently has over 120 members from across the UK from very different coastal areas and interests but all having to face similar issues. We encourage members to consult with one another as well as using the resource of BURA wide Members as a knowledge pool.

Communicating across the network is kept informal and co-ordinated and captured by BURA.

If you have a query or would like to access the research we have already started to gather please email Jessica Courtney Bennett. In particular if you want to share your ideas in relation to this weeks BURA Poll please contact her today!
