About the Seaside Network

The Seaside Network was launched in Hastings in July 2006 to address the specific challenges of regeneration seaside communities and draw together people from all sectors concerned with the physical, economic and social regeneration of coastal communities throughout the UK. The network raises the profile of seaside towns, shares experience, knowledge, ideas and contacts, promotes best practice and innovation, and aims to influence policy and practice.
Since its launch in Hastings we have also co-ordinated-
- A shared learning visit to Margate for 30 Network Members
- An inaugural annual lecture by Nick Rodgers, Economic Development Officer, North Down Council outlining recent research into the planning impacts of out-of-town retail on coastal towns
- A heavily reported on conference in Scarborough where the Commons Select Committee launched their Coastal Report
- The launch of a Piers for the 21st Century Competition
The Seaside Network currently has over 120 members from across the UK from very different coastal areas and interests but all having to face similar issues. We encourage members to consult with one another as well as using the resource of BURA wide Members as a knowledge pool.
Communicating accross the network is kept informal and co-ordinated and captured by BURA.
